Stagnancy

Stagnancy

“God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.”

I read this word and I remember my biology lesson on Amoeba. Well, that was when I had heard the word first, Amoebae are found mainly in stagnant water bodies. Hence, amoeba is kind of equivalent to stagnancy in my over-analytical-hyper-imaginative-insanely-logical head. The logical conclusion follows that I dislike stagnancy in any form.

I read today in a novel a phrase called “The Human Condition”, it meant that human beings do not like change. The phenomenon of inertia supports this view. But, on a personal level, which I so believe in, I beg to differ. I have noticed that I am constantly in the lookout for change. I like to see things, grow and evolve. I like randomness, chaos and disorder. And just as inertia proved the tendency to stagnate, the phenomenon of Entropy supports me. That the ultimate stability lies in the highest possible degree of disorder and to achieve that a spontaneous reaction must occur.

Although I realize that it is very simple to observe the benefits of stagnancy, the comforts it has to offer one cannot deny the thrills of unpredictability and change. People crave safety, yet that is utopic. We always want good things to remain the way they are, but we always hope for the bad things to get over. Why this hypocrisy? If we are ready to accept the change in bad things, why can’t we accept the mortality of good?

The law of conservation of energy states that energy cannot be created or destroyed, but it can be transferred from one form to another. We always look at the first part of it in theory, but the practical and the important part is the second half of the law. Transformation is the key.

We all love the breeze blowing and ruffling the leaves of a tree, does anyone like the Fog?

If we accept changes in nature as a necessary and welcome occurrence, why is it so hard to accept changes in our lives? Is it possible to achieve growth without change? Is it possible to achieve success without it being transformed from our efforts?

Although I’d like to clarify, the change I talk about deals with adaptability and openness to new ideas. It does not imply fickle-mindedness. When I talk of learning to change I do not undermine solidarity or constancy. I talk of constancy and adaptability over stubbornness and stagnancy.

In principle, I like change, the need for safety being present in me too, but the curiosity and thrill of novelty winning hands down!

“If you don’t create change, Change will create you.”

  1. Hey who said stagnancy is good??? Its the worst thing that can happen to a human life. Even the mighty nature demonstrates the phenomenon of change in the form of seasons and the not so good catastrophes. I too do not support the theory that says humans do not like to change! Infact Indians are the ones who need a major change and provide an immediate redressal in its system of functioning and bring about a change in the way the world looks at it.
Its not to be forgotten that "Change is the only constant thing in this entire Universe"

u are confusing death with stagnancy my dear......the writer is miles ahead your thoughts anyways. in my interpretations the stagnancy here is the calm , the peace of mind, the ultimacy we are thriving for......isnt it?

begin appreciating the fog.......it covers everything....though with lots of weakness that it thrives so less a while.....but it rules...for such a lil time in the dawn.... fades but does make a point

  3. Thanks for both your comments. :)

I agree about the need for change, for growth, but i also support the need for constancy, for solidarity.

Hence, this post was just a reflection on the contrast between the two and the need for either of them to complement each other

I question the fact that why do these have to be alternatives, why can't we accept both and move on.

  4. i absolutely loved this post ... [:)]...
the world is a hypocrite my friend...and this dark realization is enough to scare the stagnancy out of anyone..i.e. if he/she realizes it...we all have to change and mould and adapt...and get a bit more transparent in our wants and desires...

Read "The other side of the mind" and u'll know what i mean !

  7. Well stagnancy and change are relative and neither comparetive..but hugely complimentary factor to each other. Untill there is stagnancy there wont be any change...then again the change from too much change into stagnancy is a change..so yeah every thing is a change...Big deal...

Yu are talking like those hippe bitches from the late 60's who proclaimed that they like randomness, chaos and disorder....
Think about a world with all these. Yu have roads with no laws but only randomness chaos and disorder....u end up with u r family in an accident...
U r in a flight to delhi with randomness chaos and disorder and then 100 ppl die in a crash...

U only states that ppl crave safty and its utopic...as there is much chaos in this world right now...please dont ask for more....

and lastly if u dont want the bad things to get over then that shows a very pessimistic approach of life and a masocist way which in medical term is known as mentally unstable...

and then u talk about adaptation and openess to new ideas...the important factor that u missed out on u r article that for accepting any change the society needs to be preparted to accept the same.....u r own article is contradictory in nature....

who hasnt change ....this article is basically meaning less talking about things which are know to every one and yet denoucing the same....

Tell me miss change...will u ever marry a guy from lets say SC/ST community...

Will u r family accept it?

Will u r society accept it?

In todays date no.....but from 50 years from now yes it will happen....
So baby girl change is with every one...even ppls though changes but u try to bring change over night it crates chaos and destruction....

U talk about nature and u dont even know a bit of the way nature works....

Its always the time which brings change ...and the change is gradual with time not sudden....nature never works in sudden and fast contemporary way in which our genreation wants it to be....its not a fucking fast food joint....

let it rest on the winds...
